IMPORTANT NOTE: For new people signing up, who are not members of the elementals in rage of bahamut, welcome! that also goes to facebook friends, and everyone else, ive given this link. if you need anything or have any questions, feel free to post them here, or email me at volyren@gmail.com I just want to make sure that these old games never dissapear, because they were a fond memory of my childhood, and im sure many of yours. At any rate, feel free to invite others. (or share the files with them. heck, do whatever you want with the files! the more who have them, the more likely these are to still be around 100 years from now!)
This is the beginning of what will eventually become an archive of the entirety of gaming history. And this is not just a history lesson. It is downloadable and fully playable both on your computer, as well as your smartphone.
This download is for your computer. I will post the Android NES emulator shortly, and you can add games to your phone at your whim. You will need this download for your phone as well, as the vast majority of the download is nothing but games. The emulator itself is actually smaller than a single game. You can either download this onto your computer and then transfer games to your phone, or if you have enough space on your SD card, you can download the games directly to your phone (I would NOT do this until I get a NON-SPLIT file uploaded, as I do not know if the unzip utilities on android can handle them). The entire game library is 715 MB, so you can judge whether or not you can fit that onto your phone.
-------------For those of you who already know all about emulation, you can scroll to the bottom of this post to get the links (NOW POSTED, DOWNLOAD AWAY!!!)
I will be posting updates as often as I can, one system at a time. When finished, this "Part 1" of the Ultimate Game Library will contain EVERY single game ever made on a cartridge. From the first home console, Atari, to the last system ever to use cartridges, the Nintendo-64.
And when I say EVERY game, I mean it. Each system has a list of all it's games, called it's System Library. But I go beyond that. There are multiple versions of many games. There are also unreleased games, and unlicensed games. There are modified "hacks" of games that change graphics or even the whole game, and there are home made games created by fans. There are even (my favorite) games that have been recently translated from japan. In the USA, we never got to enjoy these great games, but now we can. I did not stop there though, either.
I have hunted down every single translation, for every game, from Spanish to French, Italian to Polish and every language in-between. There may be games added to the list, even now, and in the future, and the archives will be updated and those games added as they are found.
** I was going to post some ASCII art here, but even in the {code} tag here, it loses its formatting. You can still see it in the readme file I put in the download though!**
The way this download will work is simple. You start by downloading File 1.
When new updates are added, download them as you wish. You do not have to download every update. You can download as many or as few as you care to. All you have to do is unzip the file, which will have a folder called "EMULATION - [ALL SYSTEMS]"
Within that folder, each and every console game system, and handheld cartridge based game system will have its own folder. Each time you download an update, just put it in the same folder. It will add whatever files are new to the folders that they should go into. At no time will any files be overwritten, so you do not need to worry about losing your saved games or configuration settings.
In addition to the full documentation that is included with every emulator (thats the program that allows you to run the games on your phone or computer), I will also include a smaller, guide, written by myself, that will easily show you how to get right to playing games without all the unnecessary technical details.
Where possible, I have already set up the Emulator with all of its needed files and options set. All you will need to do is click file, then open, and choose your game. I have full descriptions of the controls, and how to set them up to work with a gamepad, ps3 or xbox controller or whatever controller you choose to use.
Please leave the folders inside "EMULATION - [ALL SYSTEMS]" where they are, and do not change their names. I have already setup the programs to look in certain folders to find the files that they need, so unless you are comfortable with setting up the emulator, please leave the file structure and names as they are.
I originally posted the information below in another post here, but I re-post it here as it is a perfect place for it.
*****************
If there is a console or handheld system that you like, let me know. I am going to start posting the emulators for both PC and Android.
So far, only the NES library has been finalized, so if you click the spoiler, you can see exactly how many and of what type of games are available in the library.
Round 1 Emulation Schedule (current as of 8/19/12)
1. NES --(Nintendo Entertainment System)--
Game Collection Breakdown List (same as file structure of downloaded library):
2. SNES --(Super Nintendo Entertainment System)
----- 2,009 Games (at present)
Total File Size for SNES Game Library---------1.8 GB (approximately *1)
3. GB & GBC --(Gameboy and Gameboy Color)
-----2,029 Games
Total File Size for GB & GBC Game Library-----570 MB
NOTES: *1- I am still adding new translations and finding new obscure and home made games for this system, so the numbers will increase before they are posted for download. Currently the game library is 1.8 GB but I have 1.15GB of translated games that I am searching through, and am still finding games that don't exist in my game library, so I expect the final total to be at or above 2 GB total for the SNES library.
Keep in mind that all these games are beyond simple to set up and play. basically you just put the games in a folder, (you can leave them zipped for most emulators)and start the emulator program. then click file or game or whatever the menu says, and select Load Game. then pick the one you want from your folder, and you are playing.
You can save anywhere, even if the game does not have a save feature. There are 10 save slots per game, and you can even save during a boss fight. The saves and loads are INSTANTANEOUS. So you have no excuse for messing up, lol. You can even set some of the emulators to auto-save every 30 seconds or whatever you type in.
Also, 90% of the Emulators have a menu for you to enter Game Genie, Pro Action Replay, Codebreaker or whatever type of codes for infinite lives, ammo, money, etc. and you can turn them off and on at will, DURING your game, and once entered, they are saved, so you only have to enter them once.
You can also use any joystick or controller or even just the keyboard and sometimes the mouse to control the games. All controls are completely customizable. If you are playing on the android, you can use a controller, a pop or slide out keyboard, if your phone has one, or just use the emulators built in controller that shows up onscreen, if you prefer. (you dont have to have the controller onscreen if you dont want it)
So, all-in-all, once I am done uploading these systems and emulators, you will all have access to nearly 1 MILLION (At least HALF a MILLION) Retail Quality Games for every system that ever was up to the point where they switched to CD format.
**********************
Now, I am going to tell you how to download the games.
I am going to offer several ways to get the files, because unfortunately my fileswap account is the free version (I'm looking into getting a paid version) which means that I am limited to only 250MB per upload at the moment.
The NES archive is just a little over 700MB. So in order to put it up for download, I am going to have to break the file into parts. (If you are not familiar with how to open split-file archives, please read below, its very simple)
If I am able to get a paid membership, or find a better file hosting service, I will post the full file in a single download.
The final method for distributing the Game Archives will be in torrent files.
I will create a torrent soon, and place that for download here as well, if you prefer to use torrents to download files. (I highly recommend U-Torrent)
***A NOTE ABOUT SPLIT-FILE ARCHIVES:
These drove me nuts before I finally figured out how to properly open them, and now its so simple, I cannot believe I had trouble with them to begin with.
Basically, a split-file archive is just a zip file that has been broken into parts. All you have to do to open them, is to put all the parts of the archive in one place, and then double click the first file. From there, it works just like a normal zip file.
You cannot open each file by itself, so don't try. Some zip programs do not like split-file archives, so I recommend 7-ZIP. That is the program I am using to split and zip the files anyway, so I promise you that it will work.
Finally, once you have unzipped your file and placed the "EMULATION - [ALL SYSTEMS]" folder on your desktop or wherever you would like it, you can delete the zip file parts you downloaded to save space.
The "Nintendo - README.txt" file that is in the folder with the NES folder, is the instructions that I have written to help people who are not familiar with emulators. I promise, it's easy to understand, and I give detailed instructions, as well as a recommended layout for setting up controls.
I hope you all enjoy these games, because I want to make sure that these games are preserved forever. I will eventually include the artwork, instruction manuals, published strategy guides, as well as links to each game's entry on www.gamefaqs.com
I will create a front-end program which will allow you to view the game's cases, flip them over, read the back, and even read the manual for each game right on the screen. You will be able to search the games by system, genre, title, and many other ways. This should not be too hard to program, and I am going to be enlisting help to finish it. I want it so that you simply click the game's case and select play, and my front-end program will call the appropriate emulator, and auto load the game for you.
I want the program to feel like you are browsing for new games in a video game store.
At any rate, you are probably tired of listening to me talk (or rather reading me type?) so allow me to show you the money! (so to speak...)
Here are the game downloads: (Currently only split file is available)
