its funny you mention maplestory, because i was about to suggest someone looking into this game, which appears to be a little like maple story, but its more of an action beat'em up.
www.elswordonline.comit looks fun, has built in gamepad support, and i might just try this out soon. if anyone has played it or wants to give me a review of it, let me know.
i REALLY want to expand our guild. I like being able to play with like minded people, and i like you bunch of crazies.
I really want to find at least one game we can all agree on, and progress together in.
after playing D&D online, (which i really like) and dragons nest (which i havent really played THAT much yet) I find myself thinking that these two games might take too much of an investment of time to get going in. They are very fun, and both are free, but these two might have too much of a learning curve for a quick pick up and play session.
i guess the requirements of any game i would push to get our group into must be:
1.) Simple to play
2.) Not too graphically intensive, so none of us with older computers worry about our computer dying on us.
3.) FREE. (in game purchases are ok, after all, we all play rob. lets just make sure its playable without spending)
4.) (the most important requirement....) It Must Be FUN!!!!
Client download or browser based, any game is open to suggestion. there are a TON of mmo's out there now, and more coming out every day.
I would love to find a good space sim game, but have had no luck yet (i would take a 2d top down type, and especially LOVE the 3d cockpit view space sims, but i understand that not everyone would like that.)
I have checked out a few, and most of them seem to be carbon copies of each other, so I am trying to list ones that seem different and unique.
www.elswordonline.com certainly seems like its unique. If you guys like it, let me know. I may try it out later. Right now im just trying to finish working on a way to upload some of these emulation packages for everyone.
also, If anyone is interested (and i very much stress that I don't wholly approve of this next bit) I have got a gift card account that is good only for GOG. (
www.gog.com ) Good Old Games.
Basically the site is THE place to go for games that you used to love that might not be so easy to find, or that don't run on newer computers. They set them up so that they install without any cd needed, have no copy protection, and run with a modified exe that will work with newer systems, OR runs in a dosbox customized for that game specifically.
Now, If anyone is interested, I have already purchased every game from gog that I like.
I am willing to buy each of our members (and you included Jet Troop, since you can see this as well.) a game from gog.
here is the part that makes me a bit uneasy.
Even though I am paying for the game, sending it to someone else, is "technically" pirating. Each of these games are offered DRM free, or copyright protection free, so there is no need for cracking or hacking the games. they install and run just like any other game you would download today, and better still, they automatically check the files BEFORE installation to make sure that nothing has been tampered with.
So here is my plan, to ease anyone's fears or moral objections.
If you are asking for a game that i have not bought yet, then there is no problem, as;
1.) I don't really have an interest in it, so YOU will be the only one playing it. (ive looked through the whole catalogue and most of them i have either bought before or already own on disc.
2.) I can simply enter the gift card number, and pay for the game, again, AS NORMAL.
So that way, you guys know that the game you are getting is morally legit. (and really, no one is going to get in any trouble for it, because it is the same exact thing as me buying a game and giving it to someone as a birthday present.)
For those of you who might want a game that I have already bought, that causes one extra step, because I cannot buy a game twice, since there is no option for it.
Jen has her own account, but she has only downloaded the free games, and since we both use the same laptop now, we just use my account. There fore, her account has a clean slate, so to speak, and I can pay for any game on there.
Lastly, for the card. You know those surveys that are always being pushed on you? well I actually signed up for one about 4 months back. it was on my phone. I forget the name right now, but it would track where i went throughout the day, and then ask me "where were you at 815pm on wednesday? then it would give me a multiple choice answer to select from.
9 times out of 10 i had to enter OTHER because i was at home. but occasionally it would catch me at waffle house or wal mart, and even at some restaurants or game stores.
For each answered question, you boost your points, and you get points EVERY day. (they show you your projected point total for the year, based on how much you have been answering up to that point)
you can then take those points, and enter, as many times as you want, into a raffle for a giftcard for various stuff. you pick what you want, and pay a certain number of points for each entry.
I remember seeing a 500$ visa gift card being offered with an asterik beside it. when i clicked on it, it basically listed a number of online retailers and stated that the card would only be redeemable at those stores, and residents of CA, MA, and SC must choose a single store for the card to be redeemed at. (sucks for me, cuz i live in SC. makes you wonder what stupid idiot made whatever stupid law created that restriction, and WHY?)
Out of about 50 choices, i was torn between GOG, amazon, and ebay.
I originally chose ebay, only to find out that, again, because i lived in SC, that choice was not available to me. (something to due with the lottery and gambling statute, which pisses me off that they would include auctions in it!)
So after looking through gog, and finding a few games i would like, i signed up for that one, and used up all my points.
The rewards were anywhere from 10 bucks to 1000 bucks, with there being a lot of 10 dollar cards, and only 1 thousand dollar card.
The only real reason i bothered entering and spending so much time filling out forms is because i know for fact that it works, as jen had won a 20 dollar gift card to starbucks through the same thing. (that is why i signed up)
i had forgotten all about it when 3 weeks later i was looking through my email to find a registration mail from some site (i dont remember which one, probably a forum or mmo) that you have to click to complete registration.
while i was looking for it, i noticed a mail that had the "you've WON!!!" crap on it, and i was gonna mark it as spam. but you have to open it first, and boy i am glad i did!
i saw the logo of the survey company, and read the email.
I was already excited because i thought i had won like a 10 dollar card or something, but i was SHOCKED when i saw that i had won a 500 dollar gift card!!!! (there were only 2 available in the contest!)
however, again, due to state laws, i had more hoops to jump through.
i first had to claim it, which i did right away, as the mail was already over a week old. Then i had to wait for a form to come in the mail, i had to fill that out, sign it, and send it back in, and then i had to wait like 2 weeks to get the damned card.
i thought that was silly, because the card could only be redeemed online, but the whole stupid thing was silly, if you ask me.
bottom line, is that i have about 300 bucks that i cannot use for anything. as i said, i have all the stuff from gog that i want. gog does add stuff from time to time, but i am hanging on to a bit of my credits for the future.
however, i have to make sure to use the card up before september. it expires september 25th, 2012. there is NO WAY they are gonna add THAT many games before then.
So I am offering to buy a game for every single member here. I think the priciest game on gog is 15 bucks, but most are either 5 or 10 dollars, and almost every single game has either bonus games or a soundtrack and manuals, wallpapers and all kinds of extras. There are many that are compilations, or entire series of games. (example, the geneforge games, which i am now playing, all five of them are in one package.)
just go to
www.gog.com and look through their catalogue. I will get you any game you want. At this time, I am only offering to get one, or maybe 2 games per member (if both are 5 or 10).
once everyone has had a chance to get a game, i will see how much i have left, and possibly do another round.
there is only one problem I have doing this. If the games you want are over 1GB, I will not be able to upload them for you. The only way i know of for you to get these games would be to get them from a torrent. Keep in mind though, that since I am paying for the game, getting your file this way is not illegal. as long as it is the same file from gog without any changes, this falls in the category of backing up your software. I can help you find a file that conforms to this standard.
Any change to the file, even if its just a text file that says "downloaded from...." then it is not technically legal.
I dont tell you these things to scare you, I just respect that some of you want to make sure that everything you do is 100% on the up and up.
I also will be happy to send a copy of the receipt of purchase (minus my card info) to anyone who would like one.
In the event that some of you want the same game, (which i have already thought about) then I can create a separate account as many times as needed (i just have to register free email accounts) so that every download is 100% paid for, and totally legit.
Well, thats about it.
Get yourself over to
www.gog.com and see what you would like! Then just PM me here on the forum which game you would like, and I will get it for you!
Just remember that it might take me a little longer on games over 1 gigabyte, because I will have to find a "clean" version online that you can download. Any games under 1 GB, I can upload myself so that you KNOW you are getting a clean, legal file.
Just make sure that your computer can run whatever you are asking for. There are a few games, which are not very old, that may cause some problems if your computer doesn't have a really good video card (the witcher 1 and 2, for example), however, the vast majority of these games will cause NO problems on any computer. And if there is a problem, they have forums with tons of info and the solutions to just about every problem a game might have.
out of nearly 50 games I have got from GOG, I have only ever had 2 games that I could not get to run perfectly, and only one of them was unplayable because of it. the other one just ran cutscenes with no volume.
So get to
www.gog.com and find yourself something good!
Just PM me on this forum and I will get your game to you ASAP! (request reciept if you want one!)
